Plinky launched less than two months ago and it’s truly warmed my heart to see the reception it's received. I'm grateful for all of the people who've reached out to tell me how much they love the app. I was thrilled when the app was featured on TechCrunch, The Verge, and MacStories, and absolutely floored when I found out that Plinky is being featured by Apple on the App Store right now. Most importantly I can't say thank you enough to the hundreds of people who've subscribed to Plinky Pro.
From day one, I've viewed Plinky 1.0 as just the beginning. Staying true to my promise of continuous improvement and building an app that feels personal, I'm excited to introduce Plinky's first major update, Plinky 2 is focused on customization.
Customizable Save Screen
Plinky has always made it quick and easy to save a link, a value that I don’t want to compromise on. It’s also important for me to allow Plinky to grow more powerful, to match the workflows that people need from their link saving app. Making an experience intuitive, easy, and powerful is a difficult design challenge, but I love a challenge.
As more people began using Plinky I noticed that people had many different needs, and many ideas for what they wanted to do on Plinky’s Save Screen. Some people wanted to be able to add their link to a folder, others with a more tag-oriented workflow wanted the option to add tags to their link without opening the app, and many people wanted lesser-used options like archive or pin to still be available to them when needed.
Everyone having their preferences made it very hard to choose what features should be given prominence, and then it hit me: give people choices! Plinky 2 launches a new feature called Save Screen Actions, a way to do everything you need to do when saving a link, without having to open Plinky.
When using the new Save Screen, you’ll quickly notice that there are now three buttons instead of one. Previously the Save Screen had a single button which took you to a screen to edit your link’s title, notes, folder, and tags. Having one screen to do all of that was very functional, but it wasn’t particularly quick.
Plinky 2 introduces 8 Save Screen Actions that you can assign to these three buttons. There's also a More action for any unassigned actions, providing you quick access to lesser used but sometimes needed options. This new flow is dramatically faster, more flexible, and more functional than the previous Save Screen, letting you quickly save a link and move on with your day.
The full list of customizable Save Screen Actions is:
Add Link To Folder
Add Tags To Link
Edit Link
Pin Link
Copy Link
Archive Link
Share Link
Open Plinky
More (for quick access to unassigned actions)
To configure your Save Screen Actions, open Plinky's Settings and select the Save Screen menu.
Customizable Long Press Actions
As apps grow they often become cluttered, hiding features in long-press menus that only power users discover. With Plinky, I’m committed to maintaining both power and ease of use. As I added two new features for adding links to folders and adding tags to links in one tap, I carefully considered which features should be available when a user long-presses on a link.
I took inspiration from customizable Plinky’s Save Screen and Plinky’s Swipe Actions, I’ve brought the same flexibility to Plinky’s Long Press Actions. You’ll now be able to select which actions appear when you long-press on a link, creating a workflow that’s perfect for you. As Plinky’s features continue to expand, this ability to prioritize becomes increasingly valuable, ensuring you always have control over your Plinky experience.

To configure your Long Press Actions, open Plinky's Settings and select the Link Display menu.
Customizable App Icon Badges
Plinky has a very useful feature that allows you to see a count of how many links you’ve saved to Plinky on the app’s icon. This can be really handy as a visual reminder if you use Plinky to save articles you’d like to read later, keep a list of links you need to share a partner, or use Plinky as a link-oriented todo list.
There are many ways to use Plinky, and to me, all of them are wonderful! However, as a person begins to save more diverse types of links in Plinky, a single count of all your links may not always be the most useful indicator. Some people may want to highlight a specific folder, some important tags, or see how many links haven't been sorted into folders yet.
To address these needs Plinky 2 introduces Customizable App Icon Badges. This new feature allows you to choose what the app icon badge count represents, so it can be a useful tool for your needs.
Starting today you’ll be able to customize the app icon badge count based on:
Selected Folders
Selected Tags
Unsorted Links
Archived Links

{:style="max-height: 600px; @media (max-width: 600px) { max-height: 800px; } display: block; margin: 0 auto; border-radius: 8px;"}
To choose which Folders, Tags, and Links will badge your app icon open Plinky’s Settings and tap the App Icon Badge menu.
And A Little Bit More
Plinky 2 brings many small but meaningful improvements as well:
Two new actions can be assigned to the Save Link Screen, Swipe Actions, or Long Press Actions, for one-tap convenience:
Add Link To Folder
Add Tags To Link
The Save Link Screen is now easier to use and exit:
Once a link is saved, you no longer have to wait for the animations to finish. If you’d like to quickly return to the app you were using, now you can tap on the grayed-out background and Plinky will dismiss.
If you’d like to spend more time on the Save Link Screen you can tap any of the Save Actions, and the Save Link Screen will no longer auto-dismiss. This allows you to execute multiple actions such as adding a link to a folder and sharing the link, without having to hurry.
For improved readability, folders are now displayed full-width across the app, and tags take up as much space as they need to display all of their text. You no longer have to deal with truncated names like “My Cool Lin…”.
Plinky is a labor of love, and I love hearing what people think about it. Whether you want to share something you love, have an idea for how I can improve Plinky for you, or (gosh forbid) you've found a bug, please don't be shy about reaching out.
And that's all for Plinky 2, I can't wait to show you what I'm working on next!
